In the event of inclement weather (or other emergency situations), the Principal (or his/her designate) will determine if a school closure is necessary. This decision will be made as early as possible in the morning. An announcement of the school closure will be broadcast on the following radio stations sometime between 7:00 am and 8:00 am on the morning of the closure:
SUN FM (89.7) in Duncan
WAVE FM (102.3) in Nanaimo
CKEG 1570 in Nanaimo
The closure will also be broadcast on Shaw cable TV. As well, the phoning parents for each class will make every effort to phone all parents/guardians of the children in the class. Families with more than one child will only be phoned by one phoning parent.
If you do not hear of a school closure and the weather conditions are severe where you live, you will have to make a choice as to whether or not it is safe to bring/send your children to school. Please use your discretion in this matter. If you decide to keep your children home, call the school office as soon as possible.
In the event of an unanticipated closure during school hours (power outage, inclement weather, other emergency), we will ensure that all children are transported home or to an alternate approved location.
Your child’s safety is our main concern in emergency situations. Please ensure that the office is fully aware of alternate emergency arrangements for your children. As well, keep the office informed of any changes to phone numbers (regular and cell) and contact people. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
