Queen of Angels welcomes international students to come and learn in a friendly, caring and safe environment. Our small campus of 375 students in grades Kindergarten through 9 is located in the small community of Duncan in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Queen of Angels offers small class sizes, fully accredited teachers, a structured learning environment, and an opportunity for all students to gain the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to respond to personal challenges with faith, hope and love.
In the last school year international students from Korea joined us. Since our Canadian students also come from many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, our international students are welcomed and quickly become part of our family. We are all enriched through learning about one another's cultures.
Since international students form only a small percentage of the total student population, students enjoy benefits that they may not find in larger schools that cater to many international students:
- students quickly make new Canadian friends.
- students with English as a second language are less likely to associate only with students from their own country and therefore they learn English more quickly.
- the school can custom fit learning programs to individual student needs.
International students coming to Queen of Angels are required to stay with a Canadian family approved by the school. We consider the homestay family a very important part of the International Student Program. It allows the student to improve his or her English at a faster rate, experience Canadian culture, and to participate in the everyday activities of a Canadian family.
Queen of Angels assesses all Homestay families as well as accommodation to ensure a safe, caring environment for the student. We encourage the homestay families to keep in touch with the school regarding all aspects of the student's welfare. The administration and faculty will, in return, keep the families informed at all times regarding academic and behavioral progress. Students are provided with a private furnished room. The cost is approximately $800.00 Canadian dollars paid at the beginning of each month directly to the homestay family .
