Mrs. Van Ryk was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Canada at the age of three. She has lived in Duncan since 2001 with her husband, three sons and one daughter. Mrs. Van Ryk has been very involved volunteering with Cowichan Football for the past eight years, as she loves working with children. Her hobbies are singing, dancing, reading, and football.
